Shiatsu

Shiatsu is an ancient healing art and derived from oriental medicine. In the middle of the 20th century, Shiatsu became recognised as a therapy in its own right. Shiatsu is a Japanese word that means 'finger pressure'.

It is based on the philosophy of Yin and Yang, the five elements and the flow of energy (ki). It is often described as acupuncture without the needles. During the treatment the client is asked to wear loose clothing. The treatment takes place a ground level on a futon.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a holistic therapy that is used to treat the whole body by working on the feet. There are reflex areas on the feet that correspond to the rest of the body.

It aims to restore balance by increasing the circulation of the internal organs, glands and other parts of the body, this in turn unblocks the energy that stagnates in the feet.

Aromatherapy Massage

Aromatherapy massage is the use of essential oils to enhance physical and emotional wellbeing. The whole person is considered, taking into account their physical and emotional state.

Records have shown oils being extracted as far back as 3,000 b.c. Essential oils can be absorbed into the blood system, through the skin and via respiration. This is why after a massage it is beneficial to leave the oil on the skin for as long as possible for the skin to absorb the individual properties of the essential oils.

Therapeutic & Swedish Massage

It is an ancient art that has been practised and performed for many thousands of years. Massage today has evolved from a combination of Eastern and Western traditions.

It is a powerful tool, which enhances physical and emotional wellbeing, improving the circulation of nutrients of the body and encourages the body to heal itself. The greatest advancement of therapeutic massage was recorded by Swedish physiologist Per Henrik Ling. He developed a series of massage movements, creating a scientific system of therapeutic massage known as Swedish massage.

Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is an extremely effective treatment, which has evolved over thousands of years. This traditional ritual is practised in India and techniques passed down from one generation to the next.

The original techniques have been westernised and included massage to the neck and shoulders. Today Indian head massage has developed into a stress management programme. Parts of the body that are worked are: upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, face and scalp.
