Shiatsu Holistic Treatments Derby & Burton
Shiatsu is an ancient healing art and is derived from oriental medicine. In the middle of the 20th century Shiatsu became recognised as a therapy in its own right.
Shiatsu is a Japanese word that means 'finger pressure'. Shiatsu is based on the philosophy of Yin and Yang and the five elements of the flow of energy (ki).
Ki is our vital universal force; it flows throughout the body. Sometimes ki can be blocked. This can be caused by physical, psychological or emotional disturbances in our daily lives.
Ki moves through pathways called meridians. Shiatsu tonifies and corrects the flow of ki. When balance is restored this will help prevent disease. The strength and balance of a person's ki circulation is reflected in their health.
Shiatsu is calming; it promotes relaxation and a sense of well being. It encourages the bodies own healing abilities and can enhance greater self-awareness. It shows us how our feelings and thoughts play an important part in our physical well being.
Shiatsu can help with a range of different conditions including:
- Respiratory problems.
- Digestive disorders.
- Plus other ailments.
During the treatment the client is asked to wear loose clothing (loose top and trousers are ideal).
The treatment takes place at ground level on a futon. At the beginning of the treatment the practitioner will ask a series of questions relating to medical history, life style etc. Everything discussed in the session is confidential.
